New Delhi : Air India earlier eyed to vaccinate its entire staff by the end of May following threats of employee unions to stop flying if the airline did not begin vaccinations. However, due to shortage of vaccines, the plan got deferred.
The carrier cancelled vaccination camps at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on May 11 and May 13, according to reports.
India is currently suffering a severe second wave of coronavirus that has deeply hurt the aviation sector.
India officially opened vaccine eligibility for everyone over 18 on May 1, clearing the way for anyone to get their shots. However, the decision comes the same day as some airline employee unions threatened to stop flying without vaccines.
