Dhaka: The Ambassador of Maldives to Bangladesh, Shiuneen Rasheed, paid a courtesy call on Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam at the Secretariat on April 27. State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat was also present at the meeting.

Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, with a particular focus on tourism sector development, said a release from the ministry.

Bangladesh's coastal destinations, including the beaches of Cox's Bazar and Kuakata, were highlighted as key areas where Maldivian expertise and experience could prove valuable.

Both sides expressed interest in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize mutual cooperation in the tourism sector.

The tentative agreement is expected to facilitate knowledge and skill exchange, support tourism infrastructure development, and enable joint initiatives between the two nations.

Ambassador Rasheed reaffirmed Maldives' commitment to working closely with Bangladesh and pledged continued cooperation with the current government.
