Dhaka: The newly reconstituted Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited held its first meeting on April 26, placing strong emphasis on fleet expansion and enhancing passenger service standards.
The 13-member board was restructured through a government notification issued on April 25 by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, in accordance with the Companies Act, 1994 and the airline’s Articles of Association. Rumi A Hossain has been appointed as Chairman of the new board, bringing with him extensive experience in banking and corporate leadership.
The day-long meeting took place at Biman’s headquarters, Balaka, in the capital. Board members reviewed the airline’s overall operations, financial management, safety standards, and long-term strategic priorities, read a press release. Key discussions centered on expanding the aircraft fleet to strengthen competitiveness on international routes and improving service quality to ensure a better passenger experience.
The board underscored the importance of building a modern, efficient fleet and adopting customer-centric service initiatives. Members also expressed their commitment to transforming the airline into a financially sustainable and globally competitive national carrier through timely and strategic decision-making.
With a blend of expertise and professional experience, the new board is expected to guide Biman Bangladesh Airlines toward becoming a more modern, self-reliant, and internationally recognized flag carrier.
