Dhaka: Bangladesh is gradually preparing to cater garment work orders worth up to UDS 8 billion a month as the local apparel manufacturers are getting more work orders from international retailers and brands.
Faruque Hassan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on January 5 while speaking at the ERF Dialogue held at the office of the Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) in the capital.
For the first time ever in Bangladesh’s history, the monthly export of garment items crossed USD 4 billion with global business recovery from severe fallouts due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Currently we are not capable to cater work orders of USD 7 billion to USD 8 billion worth of garment items per month. However, we are improving our capacity gradually," said the President of BGMEA.
Hassan mentioned work orders are coming from different international retailers and brands, hence, the local manufacturers are increasing their capacity.
