Dhaka: Evercare Hospital Chattogram announced the successful completion of the first autologous bone marrow transplant (BMT) in the port city. The procedure was performed on a multiple myeloma patient on January 19, 2023, by Dr Abu Jafar Mohammed Saleh and his team.
Dr Saleh and his team are pioneers in the field of BMT in the private sector of Bangladesh, said a press release, adding, they have been providing full-time outpatient and inpatient services along with daycare facilities since January 1, 2023.
Evercare Hospital Chattogram is transforming healthcare in the port city. The hospital has invested in a state-of -the-art Bone Marrow Transplant facility; the first and only one in the region.
BMT is a complex and delicate procedure that involves replacing damaged or destroyed bone marrow with healthy cells. It is a life-saving treatment for patients suffering from blood disorders such as leukemia and lymphoma.

Now patients no longer must travel to Dhaka or outside of the country for this life-saving treatment," said Dr Abu Jafar Mohammed Saleh, Senior Consultant and Coordinator, Hematology and BMT Center of Evercare Hospital Chattogram.
"By adding BMT to our services, we are now able to offer patients the best care at a lower cost, making it more accessible for everyone in need," he further said.
