Dhaka: Md. Mokammel Hossain, a member of the 10th BCS Cadre Administration has taken over as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism (MOCAT), Govt. of Bangladesh. He replaces Md. Mohibul Haque, who has retired recently.
Mokammel Hossain’s new appointment was confirmed by the Ministry of Public Administration on December 24, 2020. Before his new assignment, he was serving as the Addl. Secretary (APD) of the Ministry of Public Administration.
Hossain joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1991 and started his career as the Assistant Commissioner at the office of Khulna Deputy Commissioner. Later, he served at the BCS Administration Academy and Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat. He worked under different Ministries in various capacities, starting from the Assistant Secretary to the Joint Secretary. He also served as the Private Secretary of the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and Addl. Secretary of the SDG Coordinator Office under the Prime Minister’s Office. During his long career, he also carried out the responsibilities as the First Secretary (Labour) at the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore and as the Counselor (Labour) at the Bangladesh Consulate General Office, Jeddah.
Born in Dhaka on January 1, 1964, he completed Honours and Masters in Economics from the University of Dhaka. Later, he obtained his MBA from the Singapore Nanyang Technological University. Hossain also completed courses in International Advanced Management Program from MIT and on Professional Development Skill from the North Carolina Duke University.
Hossain regularly conducts sessions as a trainer in various institutions. He is a listed resource person of Bangladesh Govt’s Trainers Resource Pool.
He received the ‘Special Performance Award’ as the best labor counselor while serving as the Counselor (Labour) at the Bangladesh Consulate General Office in Jeddah.
