Dhaka: The government has issued new directives including restriction on social gatherings and suspension of all in-person classes due to the surge in the Omicron variant of coronavirus cases across the country.

A gazette notification issued on February 3 said that the restrictions will be followed from February 7 and 21.

Two new directives have been added to the ongoing restrictions.

The government has banned gathering of over 100 people at -- indoor and outdoor -- state, social, political and religious events. Those who will attend the programme must carry Covid vaccination certificates or have to collect RT PCR test report (done within 24 hours before attending the gathering), the notification stated.

Also, in-person classes of all schools and colleges and equivalent educational institutions will remain suspended.
