Dhaka: Guwahati in Assam launched a portal to facilitate trade between Bangladeshi and Indian businessmen especially from the northeast region on January 12. The Indian Chamber of Commerce with assistance from Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Guwahati has developed the portal and will also maintain it.
This portal containing a database of exporters and importers of India, especially northeast and Bangladesh would enable B2B collaboration between buyers and sellers of the two countries.
It would also allow business dealings and negotiations between the two parties, an official statement said.
At the launch ceremony of the portal, Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur mentioned, trade between India and Bangladesh is currently worth USD 10 billion per annum.
However, he claimed, the northeast region only contributes one per cent to it. Hence, this portal is hoped to bolster more trade between the two countries.
Coal, vegetables, limestone and tea are usually among the goods traded between northeast India and Bangladesh.
Moreover, handloom, handicraft and mulberry silk also have great trade potential in Bangladesh, Monsur expressed.
ICC's Regional Director Ishantor Sobhapandit further mentioned this portal is the first for exporters and importers of the two countries.
