Doha: Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo, the cargo subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group, have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster their joint cargo operations.
The MoU is a follow-up to the expanded codeshare agreement in 2022, which aimed to provide passengers with improved connectivity.
“Our new MoU with Malaysia Aviation Group is testament to our deepening relations with Malaysia and the integral APAC market. This strategic cooperation with our oneworld partner will serve to link our freighter and belly-hold networks with our cargo product offering and capacity, allowing us to further cement our relationship and foster the close links between our airlines,” said Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive.
“Expanding our partnership with Qatar Airways Cargo marks a significant milestone for MASkargo. This collaboration will not only enhance our product offering and operational capabilities but also solidify our position in the global cargo market. By leveraging each other’s strengths, we are poised to deliver unparalleled service to our customers and achieve remarkable growth together,” said Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group.
The strategic agreement will enable both cargo airlines to capitalise on each other’s network capabilities and fleet capacity, thereby augmenting their cargo services. Customers of MASkargo will gain access to Qatar Airways Cargo’s comprehensive global network, while Qatar Airways Cargo customers will be able to tap into the burgeoning APAC market, including new destinations and increased capacity at existing locations.
The partnership will also utilise both Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) as key hubs to serve their combined network. This collaboration is further facilitated by the anticipated expansion of Qatar Airways Cargo’s handling capabilities at its new Cargo Terminal in Doha.
Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines initiated their codeshare cooperation in 2004, which has seen significant expansion over the years. Today, it encompasses 62 codeshare destinations across Malaysia, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Africa.
In 2022, a strategic MoU was signed between Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines to further boost their passenger airline partnership. This agreement has resulted in a wider choice of flights, an expanded range of destinations, and enhanced flexibility for passengers.
