Turkish airlines to purchase up to 75 B787 Dreamliners

Dhaka: Turkish Airlines has placed a firm order for up to 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, marking its largest-ever widebody purchase from the U.S. manufacturer.

The agreement includes 35 - 787-9s, 15 of the larger 787-10s, and options for 25 more Dreamliners.

The deal is part of the carrier’s fleet expansion and modernization strategy.

The Star Alliance member also announced its intention to buy up to 150 additional Boeing 737 Max jets. Once finalized, it will be Turkish Airlines’ largest single-aisle order from Boeing.

Combined, the new 787 and 737 Max orders will nearly double the airline’s Boeing fleet, as it continues to grow capacity and expand its global network.

Turkish Airlines currently operates more than 200 Boeing aircraft, including the 787-9, 777-300ER, 737 Max, 737NG, and 777 freighters.

The addition of the 787-10 will offer greater passenger and cargo capacity while enhancing fuel efficiency on high-demand routes to the U.S., Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, Boeing said.

The order adds to Turkish Airlines’ existing Airbus backlog, which includes 190 A321neos and 75 A350s—15 of which are the larger A350-1000 variant.
