Dhaka: Sister of Gulf Air pilot Mohannad Yousef Hassan Al Hindi accused the United Hospital authority of medical negligence that led to the pilot’s death on December 14, 2022, after suffering from a series of cardiac arrests.
The pilot’s sister Tala Elhendy Josephano, a US citizen working for the British government, at a press conference in Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on January 30, 2023, said that her brother was basically “murdered” due to “wrong treatment” and negligence of the doctors at the hospital.
Tala Elhendy Josephano mentioned that his pilot brother collapsed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport a while before his flight and was admitted to the United Hospital on December 14, 2022 where he died.
She further mentioned that when she came to Bangladesh and asked for the necessary documents from the hospital, the hospital authorities did not cooperate with her, and provided her with “fraudulent documents”.
The woman demanded justice by taking proper action against the hospital for killing his brother and revoking the hospital’s license.
Tala demanded full and free access to the medical and autopsy reports and the CCTV footage as she was being refused access to the main file of the patient.
Tala said that the hospital provided her with “a medical test report” without a cardiologist’s name. “The hospital authority also carried out CT scan and other irrelevant medical tests on my brother for pilling up costs for their gain,” she alleged.
The airline was also accused for not sending any representative during the treatment.
United Hospital in a statement on January 30, 2023 however, termed those allegations false and fabricated.
In a statement, the hospital authority said that Tala was advised to apply for the pilot’s medical records by giving her identity, and thereby, proving relation with the pilot, but she had not contacted them further.
Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, said that he would inquire with the local representatives of the airlines over what happened to the pilot as a complaint has been raised.
