Dhaka : Biman Bangladesh Airlines, in an effort to become a "smart airline", unveiled a renowned flight dispatch solution-Lido Flight 4D-developed by Germany's Lufthansa Systems.

Shafiul Azim, Managing Director and CEO, Biman Bangladesh Airlines officially inaugurated the dispatch solution at the airline's head office Balaka on November 28. Tom Vandendael, CEO, Asia Pacific Region, Lufthansa Systems and other high officials from both organisations were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Shafiul Azim, Managing Director and CEO, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said, "The famous flight dispatch solution 'Lido Flight 4D' has been adopted as an initiative to make Biman a smart airline. Through this, we can plan flights very accurately, safely and cost-effectively. There will also be automatic monitoring of weather and adverse conditions as well as support for alternative approaches. Live monitoring during the flight will be possible, determining the least-cost route and calculating perfect performance for a safe flight from start to finish."

He further mentioned the flag carrier would be able to save over BDT 20 crore annually by using the new flight dispatch solution.

The 'Lido Flight 4D' software is a comprehensive dispatch system that empowers precise and cost-effective flight planning. For international flights, meticulous planning is imperative, involving considerations such as distance to the destination, aircraft speed, weather conditions, determination of alternative routes in case of emergencies, fuel calculations, and more. Flight dispatch is the meticulous orchestration of these factors, taking into account various contingencies, including adverse weather conditions like cyclones or eruptions.
