Bangkok : Thai Airways is in discussion with leading plane makers Boeing and Airbus for an aircraft order involving over 90 jets as the airline pursues restructuring efforts while gearing up for booming travel markets, as per reports.

The Thai flag carrier, which is in the midst of a bankruptcy protected debt restructuring, has earlier indicated a need for over 30 new jets. However, its latest request for industry bids opens the door to the purchase of as many as 95 aircraft, reports added.

These would include 15 narrow-body jets and up to 80 wide-body planes, reports further claimed, marking one of the largest orders for big jetliners from South-east Asia in recent years.

Such large orders are typically spread out over a decade or so, said reports citing industry insiders.
