Bangladesh bags award at Young Chef Olympiad 2022 in India

Dhaka : Bangladesh participated in the international food festival titled Young Chef Olympiad 2022 organised by International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) at Bengal Business Summit in Kolkata, India. 
A student of NHTTI Nadia competed in the main competition and two students submitted a research work on Street Food in Dhaka for which they won a Certificate of Merit under the International Diamond Research Awards category.
The Young Chef Olympiad 2022 was participated by 46 countries, attended by 10 thousand visitors and 1000 dignitaries. 
Head of F&B and Culinary Consultant of National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute Zahida Begum represented and led the Bangladesh team. 
Sobhon Deb Chattopadhyay, Minister of Agriculture, and Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of West Bengal visited the stall of Bangladesh during the festival. Founder of IIHM Suborno Bose also attended the programme. 
The Young Chef Olympiad 2022 culinary crown was awarded to Italy, while Armenia won the Plate Trophy and Sheffield Hallam University, UK, was declared winner of the first International Diamond Research Awards at the closing ceremony of the 8th edition of the Young Chef Olympiad.
"With the Young Chef Olympiad, we have beaten the pandemic together. This has been an absolutely incredible Young Chef Olympiad with the support of countries, mentors, judges, media etc. Today we are celebrating the success of the young chefs of the world who have cooked through challenges," said Suborno Bose, Founder and Chief Mentor, IIHM. 
"Today we have people from different parts of the world who have excelled. This night is for recognising each one of you - not just the contestants, mentors or colleges but also the judges and the people behind YCO. All the judges were put to test by judging in a manner that has never been done," said Sanjeev Kapoor, celebrity chef and principal judge of YCO who also attended the festival. "Gastronomy is about so much more than simple food. It connects us all and acts as a powerful reflection of culture, heritage, tradition, and a sense of community of different people brought together for the love of food," said Anita Mendiratta, Adviser to Secretary General, United Nations World Tourism Organisation.
