Dhaka : The name Coal and Coffee made me a little confused. I wondered how coal can go with coffee. Then, it hit me. Maybe it has a connection with kebabs, grill and BBQ. And just as I thought, upon arrival to Coal and Coffee at SKS shopping mall in the capital's Mohakhali, I found it to be true.
Coal and Coffee is actually a food court with several food outlets. It is the brainchild of two young men - one an architect and the other civil engineer. While working as interior designers at SKS Tower, the two friends found an empty corner in the building on the fifth floor. Seeing it, an idea came to their creative minds. Later, they pursued the management of the building and took over the place to offer visitors mouthwatering items of grill and coffee.
When I reached the café, I found it crowded with young people hanging out with coffee and kebabs on their tables. In my opinion, coffee and kebabs are the bestsellers of the food court.
Currently, the food court's capacity to accommodate guests are 60 but to its luck, expansion works are already underway which will soon allow the food court to accommodate 100 guests at once.
The other hot selling items of the food court are set meals, BBQ chickens and a set of kebabs including chicken harialli, reshmi, gulati and many more.
In the day and age of fusion food, every restaurant tries to create a secret recipe, and Coal and Coffee has a secret one too.
They are offering a new item named Karbar. In Bengali, Karbar means business. Hence, you may wonder how Karbar can be a food. You would be surprised to know that instead of putting beef or chicken patties in burgers, Coal and Coffee puts kebabs inside burgers. Hence, a burger with a kebab becomes a uniquely delicious Karbar. It is a must try!
Also, the items Coal and Coffee offers are easy on the pocket as food courts in general are not too expensive to afford.
After the establishment and success of Coal and Coffee, the two proprietors are now dreaming even bigger to come up with more new surprises for food lovers.
