Dhaka : It was a Sunday afternoon. I reached the restaurant named Rainy Roof in the hustle and bustle of Karwan Bazar overlooking Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel. There is a number of hotels and corporate houses around but no good eatery.
Why is it named Rainy Roof? Because the restaurant is at a rooftop and when it rains it becomes a rainy roof. But not to worry, guests are protected from the rain while they enjoy a heart-touching rural vibe.
The restaurant is huge with both indoor and outdoor spaces. The beautiful mezzanine floor will mesmerise you. It accommodates 120 people inside and 180 people outside, 300 people in total.
The restaurant serves freshly cooked food and the open kitchen allows guests to witness and enjoy the beautiful art of cooking. Since all the food is freshly cooked, it takes a bit of time to serve.
The restaurant serves a wide array of mouth-watering dishes from Chinese, Thai, Indian, Continental and a variety of Kebabs from Arabic, Turkish to Mughal dishes. And apart from Ala carte, they also have set menus and an option for take away.
There are special kebabs and fish kebabs including Grilled Crab and Pompfret, pasta from a pasta bar, and from a hot oven you can taste Pizza -- so the option is large to make your selection.
The lunch time crowd is primarily from corporate offices nearby and evenings are more for family and events. There is a stage set up to supplement the event function.
Ramadan is the Holy month, Iftar and Sehri is the main food attraction after a daylong fasting, Rainy Roof prepared Ramadan Buffet of 40+ items will cost only BDT 675 and a takeaway menu of eight will be available. Seheri is the new craze and they do not want to miss out the opportunity.
Being on the 12th floor, it has a dedicated lift and the most important is they have ramp all the way up for the disabled to climb with their wheel chair.
