Shahid Hamid receives Lifetime Achievement Award at BTTHA 2025

Dhaka : Shahid Hamid, a distinguished personality in Bangladesh's travel and tourism sector, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Bangladesh Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality Awards 2025, organized by The Bangla-desh Monitor at Inter-Continental Dhaka on January 29, in recognition of his decades-long contributions to the development of hospitality and tourism in the country.

Representatives presented the award to Shahid Hamid included Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Interim Government on Environment, Forest and Climate Affairs; Ahmed Yusuf Walid, President and CEO of Galaxy Bangladesh Group; Kazi Wahidul Alam, Editor of The Bangladesh Monitor; and Ziaul Karim, Head of Communications and External Affairs of Eastern Bank PLC.

Shahid Hamid - a distinguished personality in the Travel & Tourism sector of Bangladesh, whose illustrious career spans more than five decades, defined by visionary leadership and lifelong commitment to excellence in tourism and hotel management. A postgraduate from the University of Dhaka, he began his professional journey with Hotels International Ltd. and went on to play a seminal role in the pre-opening and development of the iconic Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka. Rising through the ranks from construction coordination to Assistant General Manager, he acquired extensive international exposure in Australia and Canada, complemented by professional training at Cornell University.

Following his tenure at Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Mr. Hamid continued to shape Bangladesh's hospitality landscape by leading and transforming prominent hotels in the capital, including Hotel Sarina and Dhaka Regency Hotel, where he served, until recently, as Acting Mana-ging Director. During his tenure at Dhaka Regency, he also established the Regency Hos-pitality Training Institute in 2016-17, with financing support from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, playing a pivotal role in developing skilled human resources for the industry. Over the years, numerous graduates from the institute have gone on to build successful careers in star hotels across Bangladesh and abroad. In parallel, as President of the PATA Bangladesh Chapter, he made notable contributions to promoting sustainable tourism and industry development.
