Dhaka: Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle met Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on May 6 and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on migration management and security collaboration.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on a range of bilateral issues, including enhancing cooperation on both regular and irregular migration, security and policing, human rights, and humanitarian assistance for displaced Rohingya people and host communities in Bangladesh.
Migration cooperation emerged as a key area of discussion as both countries emphasized the importance of safe, orderly, and regular migration pathways while addressing challenges related to irregular migration and human trafficking, according to a social media post of the Australian High Commission.
Australia and Bangladesh also discussed strengthening institutional cooperation between relevant agencies to improve migration governance, border management, and law enforcement coordination.
The Australian High Commissioner reaffirmed Australia’s continued engagement with Bangladesh on regional security and humanitarian issues, including ongoing support for Rohingya refugees sheltered in Cox’s Bazar and surrounding host communities.
Bangladesh appreciated Australia’s humanitarian assistance and its continued partnership on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting reflected the growing engagement between the two countries in areas of migration, security, and regional stability.
