Bangladesh ambassador briefs Turkish MPs on upcoming parliamentary election

Dhaka: The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Turkey, M. Amanul Haq, on Wednesday, February 4, called on Mehmet Akif Yilmaz, president of the Bangladesh–Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group, at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to brief them on the upcoming parliamentary election in Bangladesh.

The meeting took place on the occasion of the visit of seven members of the Turkish Parliament, led by Yilmaz, who are set to participate as international election observers during the polls.

According to officials, the Bangladesh envoy expressed sincere appreciation for accepting the interim government’s invitation, noting that the participation of Turkish lawmakers reflects continued international support for Bangladesh’s democratic process.

Haq reiterated the interim government’s firm commitment to holding a free, fair, and transparent election, emphasizing that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure credibility and public confidence.

Yilmaz and other members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group thanked the Bangladeshi authorities for the invitation and conveyed high expectations for the election, which is expected to be highly competitive.

They also sought clarification on security arrangements for election day, to which the ambassador responded that comprehensive security measures have already been implemented nationwide.

The Turkish delegation welcomed the wide implementation of the postal voting system for the first time and expressed optimism that such initiatives would help restore democracy and lasting peace.

Meanwhile, two additional observer teams from Turkey’s Supreme Election Council and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are expected to visit Bangladesh during the election period. The ambassador is scheduled to meet them ahead of their departure.
