Dhaka: China Eastern Airlines is planning to operate flights between Chattogram and Kunming in an effort to help Bangladeshi medical travelers access healthcare in China, said concerned officials on March 29.
China has dedicated four hospitals in Kunming for the treatment of patients from Bangladesh, however, the high airfare on the route is seen as a major hurdle.
Officials said, the planned flights between the Southern Chinese city and the port city would reduce travel cost as well as travel time, paving the way for more Bangladeshis to access quality and affordable healthcare services in China.
Nazmul Islam, Bangladeshi Ambassador to China, said, “The treatment fees at the hospitals in Kunming for Bangladeshis are modest. A patient from Bangladesh would have to pay the same as the locals there.”
To support the movement between China and Bangladesh, concerned authorities in Bangladesh are also moving to reduce airfare on the route.
Chinese authorities informed they would open more healthcare facilities in the country for Bangladeshi medical travelers.
In the coming April, from Bangladesh, a media delegation will be visiting Kunming to check out and promote the treatment facilities of China.
It may be mentioned here, in February, dozens of Bangladeshi medical travelers visited Kunming for treatment purposes.
