Dhaka: Kapila Chandrasena, former Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, was found dead at his residence in Kollupitiya, Colombo, on May 8, police said.
According to a police spokesperson, Chandrasena's body was discovered at No. 37, Pedris Place, Kollupitiya. He was found hanging inside the house. Police said investigations into the death are continuing.
The discovery came a day after Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued a warrant for Chandrasena's arrest, alleging he had violated bail conditions by submitting unsuitable sureties before the court.
Earlier, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had requested the court to revoke his bail and remand him until the conclusion of the trial.
Chandrasena was a central figure in a corruption investigation surrounding a 2013 deal to purchase 10 aircraft for the Sri Lankan national carrier. The transaction was valued at over USD 2 billion.
