Dhaka: Maldivian, the national carrier of the Republic of Maldives, on February 23, inaugurated its office in Dhaka and announced the resumption of direct flights between Malé and the capital of Bangladesh from March 12, reinforcing air connectivity between the two South Asian nations.

The office, located at the Taj Marriott (2nd Floor) in 25 Gulshan Avenue, was inaugurated by Maldivian Managing Director M Ibrahim Iyas. Director of Ground Operations Ahmed Ibrahim, General Manager Commercial (International) Mohamed Saffah, and Ahmed Yusuf Walid, President and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Bangladesh Group, the airline’s General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh, were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said, the resumption of the route reflects the airline’s commitment to serving the large Bangladeshi expatriate community in the Maldives and strengthening bilateral connectivity.

“Dhaka is a key market for Maldivian. The reopening of this route underscores our dedication to providing reliable, affordable and convenient travel options for Bangladeshi workers and Maldivian travelers alike. We are confident this service will further deepen the longstanding ties between our two countries,” said Ibrahim Iyas.

A formal signing ceremony between Maldivian Airlines and Galaxy Aviation Services Ltd is scheduled to take place this evening at a city hotel.

The twice-weekly service will operate on Sundays and Thursdays, with round-trip fares starting from USD 399 (approximately BDT 47,880). Flights are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka in the early morning hours, enabling passengers to connect seamlessly to onward international destinations.

Passengers will be entitled to a 30kg checked baggage allowance along with complimentary onboard meals. Bookings are now open through Maldivian’s official website, mobile application, and call center (1671).

To celebrate the relaunch, the airline has announced a music festival titled “Dhaka, We Heard You,” scheduled for February 27, curated for the Bangladeshi community in the Maldives.

Maldivian currently operates a fleet of 26 aircraft, including one wide-body Airbus A330, one narrow-body Airbus A320, five ATR aircraft, eight Dash 8 aircraft and eleven Dash 6 Twin Otter planes, serving domestic and international destinations across the region.
