Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has provided several directives regarding the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, according to Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, February 22, after a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat, Chowdhury said they had briefed the PM on the latest developments surrounding the third terminal project.

The operation of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has remained stalled for a long time due to various complexities.

When asked whether there was any positive development regarding the terminal, Chowdhury said, “We briefed the Prime Minister today. He has given some directives, and based on those, we will take our next course of action. We will sit again with the Japanese ambassador tomorrow, and let’s see.”

He added that a new minister has recently taken charge at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and is also trying to understand the underlying issues. “It’s a six-year-old issue. Let’s see how it progresses,” he said.

In response to a question about whether a fresh tender would be floated for operating the third terminal, the BIDA chairman said, “I cannot comment on that at this moment. It is a government-to-government (G2G) issue.”
