Dhaka: The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has issued a strict directive giving travel agencies a 15-day ultimatum to obtain or renew their registration, warning of legal action against those operating without valid licenses.

According to an official notice issued by the ministry, all travel agencies must comply with the provisions of the Bangladesh Travel Agency (Registration and Control) Act, 2013, its 2021 amendment, and the 2022 regulations.

The directive makes it clear that operating a travel agency without a valid registration certificate—or failing to renew an existing one—is a punishable offense under the law.

The ministry has instructed all individuals and organizations currently running travel agency businesses without proper authorization to immediately apply for registration or renewal through the government’s online portal. Authorities emphasized that failure to comply within the stipulated 15 working days will result in strict legal measures.

The notice further states that enforcement actions will be taken against violators under the existing laws, including penalties and possible closure of unauthorized operations.

Officials said the move aims to bring greater discipline and accountability to the travel agency sector, ensuring better service standards and protecting consumers from fraudulent or unregulated operators.

The directive has been issued with the approval of the concerned authority, signaling a renewed push by the government to regulate the sector more effectively.

Industry insiders believe the ultimatum will compel many unregistered agencies to formalize their operations, though some small operators may face challenges meeting the deadline.
