Earlier, BIWTA exchanged views with the local public representatives, upazila administration, law enforcement agencies and civil societies to examine the feasibility to construct the ghat, mentioned the BIWTA Chief.

BIWTA also announced to run ferries on the Banglabazar-Shimulia route at night. Currently, three ferries ply on the route from 7 am to 5 pm to avoid collision with the Padma Bridge.

On August 25 2021, BIWTA and BIWTC jointly constructed a new ferry ghat Mongol Majhi ghat to ensure emergency services. However, the ghat was left unused due to lack of navigability in the river till December 2021.

The new ferry ghat will be constructed by shifting Mongol Majhi ghat to 400 meters far from the existing place.
