Pakistan launches modern passport verification system

Dhaka: Pakistan’s Passport Department has launched a new online verification system to address long-standing problems faced by applicants during fingerprint authentication, officials said on Thursday ( Dec 11).

The upgraded system allows users to verify their fingerprints through NADRA’s Pak-ID mobile application, streamlining the online passport application process.

Authorities said the move is aimed at making applications faster, smoother and more user-friendly for Pakistani citizens at home and abroad.

Officials added that in case fingerprint verification fails, applicants can opt for facial verification, a new feature expected to significantly reduce delays and frustrations for those struggling with the previous system.

Director General Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi said overseas Pakistanis had been facing repeated issues with fingerprint authentication, and this modern system aims to address their concerns effectively while enhancing service quality.

The new system also benefits senior citizens, who often had difficulties with the old verification process, ensuring that passport applications are more accessible, accurate, and convenient for all age groups across Pakistan.

Qazi emphasized that the department is committed to modernizing facilities, providing efficient services, and easing public interactions, reflecting a broader effort to digitize government services for citizens nationwide.
