US Ambassador praises Bangladesh’s rickshaw art, reaffirms support for cultural heritage

Dhaka: US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen and his wife, Deanne, on Wednesday visited the Rickshaw Art Festival at North South University, applauding the vibrant display of creativity and craftsmanship by Bangladeshi artists.

According to a post shared on the US Embassy’s official Facebook page, the ambassador described the festival as a powerful celebration of Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage, where traditional rickshaws have been transformed into moving canvases through colorful paintings and intricate designs.

Ambassador Christensen highlighted continued US support for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, noting that rickshaw art represents a unique blend of history, identity, and everyday life in Bangladesh.

He also drew a parallel between the local art form and the American spirit of artistic excellence and innovation, saying the transformation of ordinary vehicles into expressive works of art reflects a shared appreciation for creativity and imagination.

The Rickshaw Art Festival brought together artists, students, and cultural enthusiasts, offering a platform to showcase one of Bangladesh’s most distinctive folk art traditions while encouraging cross-cultural understanding.

The US Embassy said such cultural exchanges help strengthen people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and the United States, fostering mutual respect and appreciation for diverse artistic expressions.
