New Delhi : Tata Group has begun implementing its strategy of bringing its various airlines together by deciding to move Air India, Air India Express, and AirAsia India under one roof.
Air India is in the process of leaving several government-owned premises across the country to move to a new location in Gurugram (Gurgaon), located on the outskirts of the national capital New Delhi.
AI's largest base is in Delhi's Airlines House in Safdarjung Complex as well as in T1 of Delhi Airport. But the airline also has offices in government-owned properties all across the country - all of which are being gradually vacated.
Tata Group has been very clear about transforming Air India's working culture, and the latest move of bringing everything together is part of that strategy. The airline's regionalised organisation structure will also be slowly disbanded and replaced with a centralised one. This aims to allow various departments and managers to be together for better outputs.
It is not just Air India which is moving HQ, but Air India Express and AirAsia India will also eventually move to the Gurugram office, housed in the newly constructed office campus called Vatika One-On-One, most likely by early 2023.
Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director, Air India, commented, "… Aside from improving the opportunity for collaboration, upgrading employees' work environment and enhancing effectiveness both within and across functions, it is a powerful catalyst for cultural transformation. Together with the deployment of new technology and communication platforms, and the co-location of Air India with sister airlines, it is an exciting step forward."
Tatas began looking for a new office space for its airlines months ago. As such, they have had time to think about the logistics of it all, particularly the ease of transition of its employees so that work does not suffer.
