Dhaka : The price of jet fuel has been hiked again by BDT 19, taking the cost to BDT 130 per liter currently.
The new price has been effective since July 9, according to a statement published on the website of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
Earlier, on June 10, the price of jet fuel was increased by BDT 5 to BDT 111. Prior to that, the cost of jet fuel increased again on May 17. During that time, the price was hiked by BDT 6 to BDT 106 per liter.
On April 7, jet fuel price was set at BDT 100. On March 8, it was BDT 87 per liter. On February 9, the price was BDT 80 per liter. The price was hiked even in November and December 2021.
In April 2021, the price of jet fuel per liter was BDT 61.
In two years, the price of jet fuel has doubled.
Since jet fuel occupies 40 per cent of an airline's operational cost, the latest price hike will further devastate the airlines and passengers in turn.
The airlines of the country will now bear higher operational cost. Hence, they have no other option but to resort to increasing airfare again.
This, in turn, will make the passengers suffer as now they have to pay more to fly.
Mainly, due to this reason, in recent times, domestic airfare has been exponentially rising, putting the growth of domestic air travel at risk.
