Dhaka : Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram K Doraiswami recommended Bangladeshis to hold travel off to India currently unless it is essential, as Omicron cases of coronavirus are rising.
"It would be best if all inessential travel is avoided although we would focus on keeping visa services and borders open for now," he said while briefing the media at Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in the capital on January 9.
Doraiswami and other diplomats took the Covid-19 booster vaccine dose at the hospital on January 9 following Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen's inauguration of the booster dose campaign for foreign diplomats stationed in the capital.
"The number of Omicron cases is on the rise in India. That's why it is better for the citizens of Bangladesh not to travel to India except for emergency," said the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
However, Doraiswami further mentioned that land ports and visa programmes would remain open, and the seven-day quarantine requirement is effective currently, for all international travellers to India.
