Dhaka: A total of 186 Bangladeshi nationals returned home from Iran on a special chartered flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Saturday, March 21.
The special flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 01:35 local time.
Upon arrival, the returnees were welcomed by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Nurul Haque, and other senior officials.
According to officials, the stranded Bangladeshis were first transported by road from Tehran to the Azerbaijan border, then moved onward to Baku, from where they were flown to Dhaka on the chartered flight.
The repatriation was overseen by Bangladesh's Ambassador to Turkey, M. Amanul Haque, with two officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinating efforts in Baku.
The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment said the operation was carried out through a joint initiative with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
