Aviation minister seeks JICA cooperation to launch HSIA's third terminal

Dhaka: The Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister of Bangladesh has sought continued cooperation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to expedite the launch of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The request was made during a courtesy meeting held Monday afternoon at the ministry’s office between Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita and JICA’s Chief Representative in Bangladesh Ichiguchi Tomohide. State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was also present at the meeting.

During the discussion, both sides emphasized strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan. The minister highlighted the importance of launching operations at the airport’s third terminal as soon as possible and sought JICA’s support in ensuring its early commencement.

In response, the JICA chief representative assured continued cooperation with Bangladesh in its ongoing development initiatives. He also expressed JICA’s commitment to supporting the development of the country’s tourism sector.

Officials said the meeting reflects the growing partnership between Bangladesh and Japan in infrastructure development, particularly in the aviation sector.

JICA provided a Tk 15,000 crore soft loan for the mega project, which has a total cost of Tk 21,000 crore.
