Dhaka: A high-level meeting between Bangladesh and a Japanese delegation was held on Friday, April 3, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' conference room in Dhaka, centered on the operation and maintenance of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's third terminal.
The meeting reviewed a revised proposal submitted by the Japanese delegation. Key topics included the airport's embarkation fee, upfront payment, and revenue share arrangements.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam stressed the urgency of opening the terminal, noting that both sides had repeatedly engaged to protect Bangladesh's national interests.
State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat urged the Japanese representatives to reconsider Bangladesh's proposal and submit a revised one, reaffirming the new democratic government's commitment to cooperation with Japan.
The Bangladeshi delegation included Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, Prime Minister's Advisor on Civil Aviation and Tourism Humayun Kabir, Investment Development Authority Chairman Ashiq Chowdhury, and Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md. Mustafa Mahmud Siddique.
The Japanese side was represented by Ambassador SAIDA Shinichi and Assistant Vice Minister of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Tourism Rieko Nakayama. Both parties agreed to convene a follow-up meeting at the earliest opportunity.
