Dhaka: Bangladesh and Nepal have discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector as part of broader efforts to strengthen people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
The issue was discussed when Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, today.
During the meeting, the state minister congratulated Nepal on the successful conduct of its recent parliamentary election and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening relations with its neighbours.
Both sides discussed a range of areas of mutual interest, including tourism, trade, energy cooperation, connectivity, education, and cultural exchange. They emphasised the importance of expanding tourism links to promote greater interaction between the people of the two countries.
The need to further strengthen the longstanding friendly ties between Bangladesh and Nepal through enhanced cooperation across different sectors was underlined by both the sides.
They also exchanged views on promoting regional collaboration under platforms such as the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), recalling the vision of Ziaur Rahman in establishing the regional body.
