Dhaka: Bangladesh has provided emergency medical assistance to the people of Iran as a gesture of solidarity amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

The consignment of essential medicines and medical supplies was formally handed over this morning by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Secretary General Dr. Kabir M. Ashraf Alam to Iranian Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi at an event held at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, said a press release from the Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Ministry Secretary (Bilateral) Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam and Director General (West Asia Wing) Md. Humayun Kabir were also present as representatives of the Bangladesh government.

The assistance follows a grant of BDT 1 crore provided on April 6 by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for procuring emergency medicines and medical equipment to support injured people in Iran.

Dr. Nazrul Islam expressed deep concern over the loss of lives and destruction caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He reiterated Bangladesh’s firm stance in favor of peace and voiced hope that diplomatic efforts would lead to a peaceful resolution and lasting stability in the region.

Receiving the aid, Ambassador Jahanabadi conveyed sincere gratitude to the Bangladesh government and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the humanitarian initiative. He highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Iran and thanked the people of Bangladesh for their solidarity and support during this difficult time.

Dr. Kabir M. Ashraf Alam said the Red Crescent continues to work for distressed people around the world and described the assistance to Iran during the conflict as part of its humanitarian responsibility.
