Dhaka: The Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, Abdelouahab Saidani, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 13.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and steadily expanding bilateral relations between the two countries, with particular emphasis on emerging sectors such as shipbuilding and manpower recruitment, read a press release from the ministry.
The State Minister highlighted Bangladesh’s growing capabilities in the shipbuilding industry, inviting enhanced Algerian investment and technical collaboration to tap into Bangladesh’s competitive advantage in producing small and medium-sized vessels. Both sides recognized shipbuilding as a promising sector for boosting trade and industrial cooperation.
A key focus of the discussion was the recruitment of skilled and semi-skilled manpower from Bangladesh. The ambassador expressed Algeria’s strong interest in expanding labor cooperation, acknowledging Bangladesh’s large, trained workforce as a valuable asset for Algeria’s development needs. This cooperation is expected to open new employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers while supporting Algeria’s economic sectors.
In addition to shipbuilding and manpower, both sides discussed strengthening collaboration in energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. The state minister also called for deeper engagement in education and welcomed progress toward establishing a Joint Consultative Commission.
The meeting concluded with both পক্ষ reaffirming their commitment to intensifying bilateral engagement, enhancing people-to-people connectivity, and advancing cooperation across priority sectors, particularly shipbuilding and workforce mobility.
