Dhaka: A Beechcraft 1900 aircraft operated by Colombia’s state-run airline Satena crashed in the country’s north on Wednesday, January 28, killing all 15 people on board.
In a brief statement, Satena said the turboprop, registered HK-4709, operating as Flight NSE 8849, “suffered a fatal accident,” without providing further details.
Authorities later located the wreckage in a mountainous area after an extensive search operation.
Earlier, he flight departed from the city of Cúcuta, about 100 kilometers northeast of Ocaña, carrying 13 passengers and two crew members.
Contact with the aircraft was lost 11 minutes before its scheduled landing in Ocaña at 12:05 local time. Emergency protocols were immediately activated, and search teams were dispatched to the region.
The official passenger list includes lawmaker Diogenes Quintero Amaya and Carlos Salcedo, a candidate in the upcoming congressional elections.
Colombia’s armed forces supported the search efforts in the area where the aircraft went missing, which includes zones under the influence of the ELN guerrilla group.
A hotline was established for relatives of those on board, and authorities have launched an investigation into the crash.
