Biman reconstitutes board with new Chairman Rumi Hossain

Dhaka: The government has restructured the Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines through an official gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.

Under the new arrangement, Rumi A Hossain, Sponsor Director and Chairman of the Board Executive Committee of Bank Asia PLC, has been appointed as the Chairman of the board.

The reconstitution has been carried out under Articles 37 and 38 of the airline’s Articles of Association in line with the Companies Act, 1994. The newly formed board brings together senior officials from government, the armed forces, the financial sector, corporate organizations, the legal profession, and academia.

The members of the board include Dr Md Khairuzzaman Majumder, Secretary of the Finance Division; Fahmida Akhter, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism; Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan, Assistant Chief of Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force; Major General Md. Hasan Uz Zaman, Engineer-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Army; Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim; M Masrur Reaz, Chairman and CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh; Sharif Zahir, Chairman of United Commercial Bank; Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Vice Chairman of DBL Group; Md. Mamunur Rashid, Additional Managing Director of X Index Companies and former President of ICMAB; Barrister Khairul Alam Chowdhury, Head of Chambers at Chowdhury and Law Firm; Professor Abu Naser Ahmed Ishtiaque from the Department of Marketing at the University of Dhaka; and Kaiser Sohel Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, who serves as an ex-officio member.

According to the notification, the new board structure will come into effect immediately after approval by the competent authority. Officials said, the reconstitution is aimed at strengthening corporate governance and supporting efforts to improve operational efficiency, expand the fleet, and enhance overall service quality of the national carrier.
