Dhaka: Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced that it will change the technical stop on its Dhaka–Toronto route from Istanbul to Rome effective March 29, aiming to improve operational efficiency and reduce overall travel time.

The national flag carrier currently operates direct flights from Dhaka to Toronto with a scheduled technical landing in Istanbul. Beginning March 29, the refueling stop will instead take place in Rome. Passengers will remain on board during the technical landing, according to airline sources.

Biman officials said the move is designed to streamline operations and enhance convenience for both the airline and travelers. The carrier already operates regular passenger flights between Dhaka and Rome, allowing it to leverage existing ground handling, staffing, and operational infrastructure in the Italian capital.

By consolidating services in Rome, Biman expects to avoid additional logistical arrangements previously required in Istanbul. The shift will also allow for crew layovers in Rome, where the airline maintains established support services.

The change is expected to slightly reduce the overall flight duration between Dhaka and Toronto, added airline sources.

The Dhaka–Toronto route is one of Biman’s longest nonstop services and serves a significant Bangladeshi diaspora population in Canada. The airline said the schedule adjustment reflects its broader efforts to optimize long-haul operations while maintaining passenger comfort and safety.
