Dhaka: The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has imposed a nationwide ban on drone flights until February 15, citing safety and security concerns.

According to a media release issued on Monday, the restriction will apply across the country with immediate effect. However, the ban will not be applicable to law enforcement agencies and the defense forces.

The authority stated that drone operations for research, survey, agricultural activities, monitoring purposes, and official event coverage may be permitted under special circumstances. Government and private individuals or organizations seeking such permission must apply in advance to CAAB and obtain clearance from all relevant agencies before conducting any drone flights.

CAAB further warned that operating drones in violation of the imposed restriction will be treated as a punishable offense under Section 24 of the Civil Aviation Act 2017.

The notice was signed by Muhammad Kawsar Mahmud, Assistant Director (Public Relations), CAAB.
