Indonesia finds bodies of all 10 passengers onboard crashed ATR

Dhaka: Indonesian rescuers have found the bodies of all 10 passengers who were on board the Indonesia Air Transport ATR 42-500 that went missing last Saturday and was later found crashed in the South Sulawesi province of the country.

Andi Sultan, an official of South Sulawesi’s rescue agency, confirmed in a video statement that the ninth and tenth bodies were found on Friday, January 23.

Earlier, on January 18, rescuers had located the wreckage of the lost ATR at different places around Mount Bulusaraung in the Maros region. The body of a missing occupant was also discovered on the same day.

South Sulawesi's rescue agency then deployed 1,200 personnel for the search mission in the hope of rescuing other passengers alive.

Now, after finding the last two bodies, it has been officially confirmed that all passengers onboard the aircraft lost their lives.

Last Saturday, on January 17, an Indonesia Air Transport ATR 42-500 aircraft, registered PK-THT, went missing with seven crew members and three ministry staff onboard after losing contact with air traffic control at 13:30 local time.

The Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry of Indonesia had chartered the aircraft for conducting air surveillance on fisheries.
