Dhaka: Passenger woes persisted on Monday, March 2, as another 39 flights were cancelled at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), amid ongoing disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict.
According to airport authorities, a total of 102 flights have been cancelled since the conflict began, up to Monday noon.
Group Captain Ragib Samad, Executive Director of Dhaka Airport, said many passengers arrive at the airport without receiving confirmed information about their flight cancellations, leading to confusion and inconvenience.
He alleged that some travel agents failed to properly inform passengers about schedule changes and cancellations.
Of the 39 flights cancelled on Monday, four were operated by US-Bangla Airlines, four by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, five by Emirates, eight by Air Arabia, four by Qatar Airways, two by Kuwait Airways, and four by Flydubai.
US-Bangla General Manager Kamrul Islam said passengers are still coming to the airport as flights to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait remain operational. “They are arriving in the hope that suspended flights might resume,” he said.
He added that in many cases passengers provide contact numbers from their destination country at the time of ticket purchase, making it difficult for travel agents to reach them promptly with updated information about cancellations.
