Dhaka: Travel woes showed no signs of easing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as 25 additional flights were cancelled on Wednesday, March 4, prolonging the ongoing disruption caused by the Middle East security situation.
The cancellations follow the continued closure of airspace by several Middle Eastern nations — including Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan — after tensions escalated in the region on 28 February.
Airport officials said the following flights were cancelled until 12:00pm on Wednesday:
• Qatar Airways – 4 flights
• Kuwait Airways – 2 flights
• Jazeera Airways – 2 flights
• Air Arabia – 8 flights
• Emirates – 5 flights
• US-Bangla Airlines – 4 flights
With the latest cancellations, the total number of flights scrapped since February 28 has climbed to 173.
Passengers — especially migrant workers and business travelers heading to Middle Eastern destinations — remain in distress amid uncertainty, limited information, and challenges in rescheduling tickets. Many have spent long hours at the airport awaiting updates, while others are struggling to rearrange travel plans as the situation continues to evolve.
Authorities have urged passengers to stay in regular contact with their respective airlines and confirm flight status before travelling to the airport.
