Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated "Hajj Flight - 2026" on the night of April 18, marking the commencement of this year's Hajj air operations from Bangladesh.
Speaking at the event, the prime minister extended warm greetings to the departing pilgrims and sought their prayers for the country and the nation.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam and State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat were also present at the ceremony.
The inaugural flight, bound for Saudi Arabia, departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 00:20 am with 419 pilgrims on board.
In line with the Hajj management roadmap announced by the Saudi Arabian government, approximately 78,500 Bangladeshi pilgrims will be transported this season.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Saudia, and Flynas will transport the pilgrims through 207 flights without operating any chartered flights.
Ticket costs have been reduced by BDT 12,000 per passenger compared to last year.
On the opening day, a total of 14 flights, including six by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, four by Saudia, and four by Flynas, would take off from Dhaka.
