Dhaka: Amid instability and airspace restrictions caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East due to US/Israel-Iran war, a US-Bangla Airlines flight was compelled to remain in Dubai for over 48 hours. Flight BS344, operated by a Boeing 737 aircraft, was grounded due to the volatile situation and operational limitations at Dubai International Airport, leaving 39 pilots and cabin crew stranded.
During this challenging period, the Dubai station of US-Bangla Airlines, in close coordination with its Dhaka head office, maintained continuous communication with the Dubai aviation authorities to secure a safe corridor for departure. Airport operations in Dubai were significantly limited, and the situation remained highly sensitive.
After sustained diplomatic and operational efforts, the airline received a short window of special clearance. Fully prepared for departure, a non-scheduled ferry flight, designated BS344D, took off from Dubai International Airport carrying the 39 crew members back to Bangladesh. Notably, amid the wartime circumstances, it was the only Bangladeshi flight to depart from Dubai during that period.
The flight was commanded by Captain Shamsuzzahan, alongside First Officer Shahadat. Despite the complex and high-risk environment, the crew demonstrated the highest standards of professionalism, skill, and safety, said a release. The aircraft landed safely in Dhaka at 2:36 am.
Through this successful operation, US-Bangla Airlines reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its passengers, pilots, and crew. The incident stands as a testament to the airline’s sense of responsibility, coordination, and courage during uncertain times, added the release.
