Dhaka: The United States Embassy has reminded visa applicants about activities that are not permitted under B1 and B2 visitor visas, urging travelers to comply with immigration rules.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, March 18, the embassy clarified that B1 and B2 visas are strictly for temporary visits such as tourism, business meetings, or medical purposes and cannot be used for several restricted activities.
According to the embassy, “birth tourism”—travelling to the United States primarily to give birth in order to secure U.S. citizenship for a child—is not allowed under this visa category.
The embassy also warned that visa holders are prohibited from engaging in any form of employment that involves payment from a U.S. employer or business.
In addition, studying for a degree or earning academic credit while on a visitor visa is not permitted, it said.
Paid performances are also listed among the activities banned under B1 and B2 visas.
The embassy urged applicants to ensure that their travel purpose matches the appropriate visa category to avoid complications or potential visa denial.
