Dhaka: The United States has reiterated its commitment to supporting the development of Bangladesh’s aviation industry, as Dhaka called for enhanced cooperation to boost growth in the civil aviation sector.

The assurance was conveyed during a courtesy meeting between US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen and the newly appointed leadership of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism at the ministry’s office on Tuesday morning, according to a press release.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, along with State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, attended the meeting.

Talks focused on further consolidating bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States. The Bangladesh delegation sought US collaboration in modernizing and expanding the aviation sector, particularly in areas such as technical assistance, skills development, and institutional capacity building.

In response, Ambassador Christensen affirmed that Washington would continue to provide comprehensive support to the current government and remain actively engaged in promoting shared priorities, especially in aviation development.

The discussions highlighted the mutual intent of both nations to deepen cooperation and ensure sustainable progress in Bangladesh’s aviation landscape.

Earlier, the ministry announced that the government is preparing to sign an agreement with Boeing to purchase 14 aircraft for Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The move is part of efforts to help narrow the trade imbalance with the US, alongside negotiations aimed at securing tariff concessions on Bangladeshi exports.
