Bangladesh, Thailand seek stronger educational cooperation

Dhaka: State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today expressed Bangladesh’s interest in expanding educational cooperation with Thailand through expert exchanges, training programs, and sharing administrative experiences.

“We are interested in conducting a comprehensive and practical review of Thailand’s education system at the initial stage,” he said.

“To achieve this, there are plans to facilitate exchanges between education experts of the two countries, observe education administration systems, and introduce leadership-based training programs," the minister added.

The remarks came during a meeting with Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh Thitiporn Chirasawadi at the ministry office in Dhaka, according to a PID release.

During the meeting, both sides discussed issues related to improving the quality of primary education in Bangladesh, addressing teacher shortages, and strengthening leadership-focused training initiatives.

Welcoming the ambassador, Bobby Hajjaj said that although many of the country’s nearly 65,000 government primary schools have shown positive performance, there is still scope for improving students’ overall learning outcomes.

He noted that inadequate teacher training and lack of skilled leadership continue to pose challenges to quality education in many institutions.

“In this regard, gaining firsthand knowledge about the successful aspects of Thailand’s education system could be very helpful for Bangladesh,” he said.

The Thai ambassador assured Bangladesh of Thailand’s full support in developing the primary education sector.

She praised the Bangladesh government’s commitment and long-term planning for education development, particularly efforts to improve learning standards, teacher training, and school leadership.

“Exchange of experiences in the education sector can be beneficial for both countries,” she said.

The ambassador also said Thailand is interested in supporting Bangladesh by sharing training methods, educational activities, and administrative experiences from its education system.

Primary and Mass Education Secretary Md Shakhawat Hossain, Additional Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Mohammad Atikur Rahman, and officials from the Thai Embassy attended the meeting.
