BIA traffic up as 28 airlines operate Sri Lanka routes

Dhaka: Sri Lanka’s tourism sector continues to show steady growth, with total tourist arrivals reaching 2.21 million so far this year, underscoring the island’s ongoing recovery and strong appeal as a travel destination.

Data from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) indicate sustained activity during the first half of December 2025.

Between December 1 and 16, the airport handled 1,402 arrival flights and 1,408 departure flights, reflecting robust operational levels. During the same period, 108,055 tourists arrived in the country through BIA.

Airport authorities said a total of 28 international airlines are currently operating services to Bandaranaike International Airport, maintaining strong connectivity with key source markets.

The continued airline presence has supported inbound travel flows despite global economic uncertainty and operational challenges facing the aviation industry.

Officials say the steady rise in arrivals highlights improving confidence among travellers and industry stakeholders, with tourism remaining a key driver of economic activity.

Sri Lanka has been focusing on enhancing air connectivity and visitor experience as part of efforts to sustain growth in the sector.
