Dhaka: Finnair is going to become the world's first airline to install HEPA filters in their fleet of ATRs. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air filters on the recirculation system. They are going to install HEPA filters in its entire Airturbo ATR fleet.

HEPA is the most efficient technology for cleansing and purification of aircraft compartment air. This particular filter removes dust, allergens, bacteria, viruses, and other irritating particles from the cabin with an efficiency of 99.97 percent.

Finnair's Airbus and Emberer are already fitted with HEPA filters and now all the ATRs are going to be fitted with HEPA filters.

Finnair’s fleet currently consists of 12 ATR aircraft operated by its partner company NORA Air in domestic and regional routes.

The installation of HEPA filters in Finnair’s ATR fleet will start in June and will be finished by 2022 beginning.

Airplanes are an unlikely place to catch viruses. This fresh air supply of HEPA from the overhead stowage compartment level and extract to floor level, means that there is no airflow forward or rearward along the cabin. The cabin air changes every three minutes.

The in-flight infection risks can be further reduced by taking additional safety measures.

Finnair requires all passengers older than seven to wear masks. Finnair has made several changes in its inflight services, which aim to reduce contact between the crew and the customers. As well as unnecessary movement in the cabin.
